Abstract

1451258 Power tools ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 17 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 02178/74 Heading B4C [Also in Division B3] A power driven masonry &c. tool wherein the drill is rotated and also hammered has means to disengage the rotating drive so that the tool is only hammered. The tool holder 32 is hammered by a pneumatic piston 42 in a reciprocating piston 26 and the tool casing is cushioned by a ring 62 of resilient material and sealed by an O- ring 58 in the holder. The holder 32 is rotated by the reciprocating piston 26 which is helically splined to oscillate a serated face one-way coupling (106, 110) (Fig. 3A, not shown) which is mounted to rotate around the spline and is held against rotation by a clutch 100 and spring 114 to provide an overload give-way device and also to transmit rotation to the tool holder 32. For hammering only the coupling (106, 110) is separated by a lever arm 38 and eccentric 37. In Fig. 6 the coupling is a dog coupling 170 that is separated by turning a knob 158.
