Abstract

1407285 Rotary-percussive drill IMPEX ESSEN VERTRIEB VON WERKZEUGEN GmbH 30 Oct 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 49956/72 Heading B3C [Also in Division B4] A rotary percussive drill has a rotary drive shaft 5, Fig. 4, which may be driven from an electric motor armature spindle 2 via gear 4, and which drives a parallel tool holder shaft 8 e.g. by gears 7. A tool 11 mounted in the shaft 8 moves a striker member or anvil 12 rearwardly when brought into engagement with a workpiece and is struck thereby intermittently see Fig. 1. Member 12 is cyclically withdrawn against the action of spring 15 and then released by a cam member 18 acting on flange 12<SP>111</SP> and mounted for relative axial and rotational movement on shaft 5 but engaged due to spring 20 and by means of clutch dogs 18<SP>1</SP> with a coupling member 19 fixed on the shaft. Disengagement of the tool 11 from the workpiece causes member 12 to be urged by spring 15 into engagement of a groove with an 0-ring 14 in the shaft 8 thus disengaging flange 12<SP>111</SP> from the cam surface thereby allowing cam member 18 to be thrown off member 19 see Fig. 3. The cam member is then locked axially on shaft 5 by spring loaded stop member 21 engaging flange 12111 by ball 22. Re-engagement of tool 11 with the workpiece reverses this process. The cam member may be permanently disengaged from the coupling member 19 by rotation of an external rod 26 with an inclined end face.
