Abstract
1449648 Thermal fuse and resistor DEUTSCHE VITROHM GmbH & CO KG 17 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58253/73 Heading H2G A fuse device comprises a resistor having two leads the resistor being in a ceramic housing 10 with at least one eccentric bore 21 through which a third lead 23 is fed to be joined to a spring element 15, located in a channel 20, by a soldered junction 25 that defines a fuse. Excessive heat developed by the resistor melts or helps to melt the fuse. A fourth lead 24 may be joined at the junction 25 and a second junction 22 using a resistor lead 14 may be present in which case the second junction is arranged to melt after the junction 25. In another embodiment (Fig. 6a not shown) the resistor lead 14 is joined to the fuse. A modification (Fig. 7, not shown) has the unsoldered resistor lead 14 returning through a bore 21. Variations in fuse response are acheived by using different lengths of the lead 24 within the bore 21, different diameter leads and different materials for the leads and/or solder junction. The leads may be copper-sheathed or silverplated iron. Reference is made under Section 9 to U.K. Specification 1,123,324.
