Abstract

1449025 Terminals ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 18 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 58471/73 Heading H2E An electrical connector (Fig. 6) comprises an insulating housing 1 carrying helical springs 6 each acting on a pivot 5 to press a blade 3 against a serrated contact 2 to trap a conductor inserted between them, the pressure being releasable by rotation of a pivot 5 by a tool inserted in a slot 51, and the contact 2 having a central screw thread for external connection. Each blade 3 has a serrated contact edge (34, Fig. 15, not shown) and is L-shaped, a rectangular portion (35) of the blade locking into a recess (56, Figs. 18, 19, 22, not shown) in a cylindrical boss (52) about which the pivot rotates. The housing 1 carries a spring 8 for reversibly mounting the connector on a rail 9, the recesses 130, 140 being shaped to engage the opposite edges of the rail when the connector is mounted in the reversed position. Fig. 3 shows a half of a six-terminal connector in which a single spring 6 engages two pivots 5, 5<SP>11</SP>; in a modified version the two L-shaped contact portions are joined at the top, being formed from a single strip (Fig. 5, not shown). In alternative embodiments (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown) the springs 6 are replaced by leaf springs.
