Abstract

1506812 Electrical connector AMP Inc 20 Jan 1976 [5 Feb 1973] 02088/76 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises a cantilever spring contact arm supported with one end adjacent one planar side of a housing wall and curving away from the wall towards a free end. The separation of the arm from the wall increases towards the free end of the arm and is such that movement of a post parallel to the wall and in contact with the spring arm causes a point of engagement between the arm and the wall to move progressively in the direction of movement. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, a metal contact comprises parallel plates 11 having conductor receiving slots 13 which penetrate the insulation of the conductor, and the spring arm 16. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the contact is provided with a pair of opposed spring arms 21 which bow towards each other. The contact is mounted in a housing, tangs 26 being provided on a web 22 joining the arms 21 to aid retention of the contact in the housing.
