Abstract
1448144 Fluid mixing apparatus INCENTIVE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT AB 4 Sept 1973 [6 Sept 1972] 41626/73 Heading B1C In an apparatus for forming a liquid gel by continuous-flow mixing of liquid and liquid gel former, the constituents are introduced through two inlet ports at the upstream end of an elongate mixing channel having a single outlet and liquid is also introduced at further inlet ports along the length of the channel, the downstream end of which is open at the outlet for delivery of the formed gel. A constriction is provided in the channel immediately before the first of said further inlet ports. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, of a fire extinguisher incorporating the apparatus, the channel follows a meandering path on the surface of a central cylindrical body 9 contained within a tubular sleeve 10. The opened-out envelope surface of the body 9 is shown in Fig. 9. Water enters at upstream inlet port 13 and at further inlet ports 18-21 with the constriction at 27. Gel former enters at inlet port 12. The body 9 and sleeve 10 are contained within a gel former container 5 which is itself supported within water tank 1. On exhausting gas cylinder 4 into the water tank, water is forced up concentric tubes 17, 26 to the water inlet ports. Gas also passes into container 5 through passages 31, 32, 34 (by rupturing diaphragm 37) 35 and 36 to pressurise the gelformer. Mixed water gel escapes from the channel through outlet port 28 to tube 30. In the second embodiment, Fig. 10, the channel forms a helical path on the body 38 the constriction being provided at 48.
