Abstract

1448031 Granulating fertilizers SUPRA AB 15 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 35961/74 Heading C1B [Also in Division B5] Powder, e.g. urea and urea-based NP and NPK fertilizers, ceramics and cement, is granulated by feeding the powder to a rotating dish granulator 11 and heating the powder in a stationary zone in the dish to cause partial melting of a component of the powder, without completely melting the powder, thereby causing the powder to adhere and form granules. Urea crystals are fed from a bin 12 by a screw conveyer 13 on to a granulator 11 and a zone is heated to 115‹ to 125‹ C. by burners 16 or by hot air, steam or focused radiation from electric or gas heaters (not shown). The granules formed are thrown on to a conveyer 14 leading to a receiver and cooler 15 via a screening device (not shown) which returns undersize granules to the bin 12. Urea may be present in other powders as a binder.
