Abstract

1444931 Arrangement for topping up multicell storage battery LUCAS BATTERIES Ltd 18 Dec 1973 [5 Jan 1973] 708/73 Heading H1B The casing 11 of a storage battery has partition walls 14 (only one shown) forming the cell compartments 13 and is closed by a lid 16 having upstanding walls 17 defining a duct 18 in communication with each of the cells through respective holes 19, whereby electrolyte introduced into the duct may enter the cells. The lid 16 also has, for each cell, a gas vent tube 21 21 extending into the duct 18, the lower end of the tubes determining the height to which the electrolyte level in the compartments 13 may reach. The duct 18 is closed by a cover 22 having a fin 23 pivotally mounted in a bush 24 on the lid 16 whereby the cover may be angularly moved to enable electrolyte to be poured into the duct. In other embodiments (Figs. 3-6, not shown) the cover slides rectilinearly relatively to the duct.
