Abstract
1442995 Multi-cell storage battery ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59094/72 Heading H1B A multi-cell lead-acid battery comprises a case formed with intercell partitions 11 having holes 15 for intercell connectors (not shown). The partitions 11 and case end walls 12 have ridges 16 with slots 14 to receive lintels 10, there being a pair of lintels for each cell. The lintels 10 are cemented in the slots 14 and to the ease lid (not shown) whereby air is trapped in the two compartments formed in each cell by the lid, case side wall 13, partition 11 or end wall 12, lintels, and the electrolyte surface, which extends above the lower edges of the lintels. The intercell connectors are situated in these airfilled compartments and are normally above the electrolyte level so that should the battery be moved to cause slopping of the electrolyte the trapped volume of air prevents entry of electrolyte into the compartments and the connectors are not flooded. In modifications (Figs. 2- 4, not shown) the upper edges of the partitions are slotted and the lintels extend across all the cells so that only two lintels are required.
