Abstract

1444927 Electric couplings ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 13 Dec 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 43320/73 Heading H2E In an electrical connector, a stiff resilient C- shaped member 10 receives at least one conductor 22, 23 in a channel 14, and shears a further conductor 21 which may be insulated when edges 17 of member 10 are moved across conductor 21 by the clamping system 24-28 thereby retaining in contact conductors 21-23. Conductor cores 22, 23 or associated spacers protrude from their channels and in another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) one of the channels is filled to give the same effect as a core. The body 11 may be curved as shown or may have a 120 degree angle (Fig. 10, not shown) in which case the engaging plate 28 has a contact angle of 122 degrees. In both cases a contact pipe 32 (Fig. 5, not shown) may be incorporated. A modification has angled tongues (44), Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), which are subsequently bent by engagement with the sheared surfaces of conductor 21 and provide further resistance against withdrawal. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, member 10 is provided with a layer 33 of resilient insulating material incorporating four conduits 36, each having a removable closed end 37, to give access to the channels 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>11</SP> the access being through the conduits 36 or independent thereof when the conduits are bent aside. The C-shaped member 10 may be of aluminium alloy HEW30P and may be provided with spacers, preferably of brass to accept conductors 21 of various sizes.
