Abstract
1444504 Piezoelectric resonator SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 24 June 1974 [10 July 1973] 27946/74 Heading H1E Quartz piezoelectric tuning fork vibrator 8 for a wrist watch, based on an X cut with successive rotations α about X (electric) crystal axis of 0-10 degrees and Y=50-70 degrees in either direction about Y<SP>1</SP> axis. Electrodes 9, 10 coated on the upper surface and 11, 12 below, with connecting wires 15, 16, provide outward m-plane alternating driving fields (see Fig. 6) on each tine as opposed to the conventional fields normal to the plane, leading to a reduced dynamic impedance more suitable for watch applications. A support member (17, Fig. 7, not shown) made of ceramic, glass or preferably quartz to match the expansivity of the fork, carries conducting areas soldered or cemented to areas 13, 14 of electrodes 11, 12 and wired to corresponding upper electrodes 9, 10. Support member (17) is gapped between the conducting areas if sufficient insulation cannot be ensured. The support member may be part of a rectangular ceramic holder enclosing the fork, formed from a sandwich of a base, a rectangular frame integral with the support member with gold paste electrodes, and a second frame, all being sintered together from the semi-calcined state.
