Abstract
1442983 Ship loading station ARCUBOS Ltd and GROUCH & HOGG 19 Oct 1973 [19 July 1972] 33683/72 Heading B8E A bridge deck 1 for connecting a fixed support 3 such as a quay to a pier of relatively variable height such as a ferry 11 is pivoted at 2 to the support and is actuated to rest by a hinged flap 10 on the ferry by fluid rams 6 connected by cables 5 to pulleys 8 forming a fixed suspension point above the deck. The cables run parallel to the deck to pulleys 4 and have suspended at their ends weights to allow lost motion when the rams 6 are actuated so that relative movement between 3 and 11 can take place when the bridge rests on 11. In modifications a single ram is centrally placed on the deck and the cables pass over guide pulleys outwards to pulleys corresponding to the pulleys 4. The cable may be in the form of a chain which may be held stationary by a ram operated sprag to hold the deck in any desired position.
