Abstract
1453814 Offshore structures EXXON PRODUCTION RESEARCH CO 21 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2586/75 Heading E1H A marine structure 10, e.g. a drilling or production platform is guyed against movement in response to extreme environmental forces by a plurality of guys 20 e.g. of 3.5 inch galvanized bridge rope, radially arranged around the structure, and anchored at one end 26, e.g. by piles, with clump weights 24 supported on the sea floor but adapted to lift off when the structure moves and apply a restoring force, the weight of each clump weight being 30 to 60 per cent of the maximum allowable tension of each guy. The clump weights can be formed by concrete blocks, or as in Fig. 3, not shown, by parallel chains (30). In Fig. 4, not shown, the weights are formed by hinged segments (30).
