Abstract

1376680 Dock loading bridge; counterbalancing K ALTEN 20 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 18392/72 Headings B8E and B8B A bridging plate 1 is hinged at 2 to a dock loading ramp 3 or similar structure and has a support lever 8 connected to a carriage 5 running on a guide 4 under the plate 1 and provided with counterbalancing springs 9. The support lever 8 is pivoted at 14 to two guide rods 10, 11 pivoted respectively to the plate 1 and ramp 3 so that the pivot 14 describes an arcuate path as the plate 1 is lowered helping to equate the support moment to the load moment throughout the descent. The springs 9 are preferably chosen so that equilibrium is achieved at the maximum lowering of the plate at 105 degrees from the vertical as determined by stops 25. A lever 20, Fig. 3, eccentrically pivoted at 21<SP>1</SP> engages a beam 6 of the carriage 5 to prevent lowering of the bridge until the lever 20 is manually moved in the direction 24. A minder mechanism 26 may be provided having a cable spring urged to wind up which may have a handle which can be grapsed to pull up the bridge plate.
