1441388 Vehicular control circuits STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 16 Oct 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 45470/72 Heading B7H [Also in Division H1] A control circuit for electrically powered vehicular accessories 3 includes fluid actuated relays 4 which control power supply to the accessories, the relays being controlled by fluid supply switches 7. A pneumatic or hydraulic reservoir 8 is connected via a control panel 6 to an extruded bundle of pipes 9, individual pipes being respectively connected to one relay and fluid supply to each pipe being controlled by a switch 7. Each relay includes a domed and an annular electrical diaphragm contact 24, 26 which come into contact when fluid pressure is applied to the convex side of the domed diaphragm 24. Diaphragm 24 may be dimensioned so that pressure has to be continuously applied to maintain contact and so that it will remain in contact with the annular diaphragm after only an initial pressure pulse. In the latter case pressure is applied to the other side of the diaphragm to break contact. In one type of relay (Fig. 3, not shown) the domed diaphragm is of the non-holding contact type and whilst in its undeflected state defines, with a seating in the relay housing, a fluid reservoir. This reservoir is connected to a pressure inlet via a flow control valve and pressure builds up within the reservoir until the domed diaphragm is deflected. The reservoir is then connected to exhaust and the diaphragm snaps back and remains there until the pressure builds up again in the reservoir. Interlocked or sequenced switching of components may be effected by the incorporation of fluid logic devices.
