Abstract

1,191,082. Relay operating circuits. NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 11 Oct., 1968 [13 Dec., 1967], No. 48202/68. Heading H3T. Operation or release of a latching relay 10 is effected by a signal applied through a step-up transformer 130 or 230 to the junction of the relay winding and a series circuit including a resistor 12 and the latching contact 10-1. Operation of the relay in the circuit shown is effected by timing pulses at 100 concurrent with signals at 112 and 114. These cause transistors 110 and 116 to conduct and apply the operate pulse through the transformer to the relay, operation being speeded by a series capacitor 146. The back E.M.F. produced at the collector of 116 when it switches off causes a zener feedback diode 126 to conduct and slow the switch-off and thus prevent overswing. Release of the relay is effected by a similar circuit providing an opposite polarity pulse through transformer 230, diodes 114 and 214 preventing interaction between the circuits. The inputs 114 and 116 prevent simultaneous operation of the operate and release circuits. 17 represents contacts connecting the circuit to other relays and the state of the relay may be monitored on line 16.
