Abstract
1441293 Purifying waste gases FRIED KRUPP GmbH 21 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44398/73 Heading B1L In a process of purifying waste gas by separating harmful gaseous constituents contained in the waste gas by reaction with a grannular absorbent ina fluidised bed, the waste gas is -passed after addition to it of the granular absorbent, into the apex of a downwardly tapering conical separating vessel in which the fluidized bed is formed, the absorbent is separated from waste gas leaving the separating vessel and is tested for residual reactivity and is either recycled to the conical separating vessel or rejected as spent in dependence on said test. Waste gas containing harmful constituents e.g. fluorine sulphur dioxide or hydrogen chloride is forced by a blower 1 into a pipe 2 to which absorbent is fed from a hopper 4 by a distributor 3. The waste gas with the entrained absorbent enters the apex of a downwardly tapering conical separating vessel 5 in which a fluidized bed forms. A second similar but larger separating vessel 6 is in series with the vessel 5 and the fluidized bed therein is of finer particles. The waste gas and particles of absorbent pass into a cyclone 7. The residual reactivity of the absorbent is tested by a sampling technique involving e.g. measurement of temperature and/or conductivity or, where appropriate, CaO content. Depending on the test, the absorbent is either returned to the hopper or rejected through outlet 10. Two series connected separating vessels 12, 13 may, as shown, be connected in parallel with the vessels 5, 6. Water can be injected at 15 to increase the moisture content of the waste gas. Each separating vessel may have, in its outlet, a centrally disposed vertically movable tube to control the amount of absorbent in the fluidized bed.
