Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate solvent simply from polycarbonate particles in a short period of time to a low concentration, by feeding steam directly into a vessel charged with polycarbonate particles contg. a solvent such as methylene chloride in order to heat the particle to a prescribed inside temp. and to discharge the gas contg. solvent vapor.
CONSTITUTION: Polycarbonate particles contg. a solvent such as methylene chloride not higher than 30% is fed to a vessel. Steam is admitted directly to the vessel in order to heat the particle to a prescribed inside temp. not lower than 120°C, pref., 120W200°C, simultaneously mixed vapor contg. the solvent vapor is discharged continuously to the outside of the system under the inside press. of 1 kg/cm2 G or above. This method makes it possible to separate a solvent to the extent no bad effect is exercised on the quality of polycarbonate. Particles of high bulk density can be treated as well.
