Abstract

1441281 Floating oil boom NATIONAL MARINE SERVICE INC 19 July 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 34595/73 Heading E1H A floating oil boom 1 comprises two or more spaced skirts 2 each formed by stringing together on one or more strings 3 a plurality of buoyant rods 4, the skirts 2 being held apart by spacers 5, and flexibly connected to a buoyant frame work 32 for towing, a trough 28 being attached to one end of the boom for skimming off the oil. The other end of the frame work may be pivotally attached to a pontoon Fig. 8 (not shown). The skirts are divided up into a number of lengths by flexible membranes 31, e.g. of plastics. The rods 4 are preferably hollow and filled with buoyant material, and the spacers 5 fit over the ends of predetermined rods which are longer than the rest.
