Abstract
1440267 Rotary positive-displacement fluid- machines ACF INDUSTRIES Inc 24 Oct 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 49489/73 Heading F1F The cylindrical rotor 18 of a sliding-rocking vane type air pump comprises two semi-cylindrical parts which are held together by case hardened end-caps 44, 62, dowel pins 33, 35 and screws 66 and are die cast from aluminium. The interior of each part has machining pads to provide reference points for milling. The rotor rotates on bearings 52, 72 which respectively surround a land 54 on an end casing part and a shaft 68 journalled in a second end casing part 14 and driven by a pulley 78 attached thereto. The inner peripheral wall of the pump casing has stripping lands 80 between an inlet 82 and outlet 84 having a pressure relief valve 86 and outlet tube 88. An air cleaner 90 is mounted on the shaft 68'to rotate therewith, and air is sucked through passages 92 into an annular recess 96 and thence to inlet 82. Two vanes 24 and 26 are mounted on a shaft 56 via bearings 60, offset from the axis about which the rotor rotates. Recesses 36, 38 accommodate spring-loaded bearing shoes 40.
