Abstract

1440037 Glass compositions; coating with glass MULLARD Ltd 11 April 1974 16314/74 Addition to 1417643 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] Channel multiplier fabrication includes etching conical channels in a photosensitive glass of composition in wt. percentages SiO 2 81À5; Li 2 O 12À0; K 2 O 3À5 and Al 2 O 3 3À0. A coating glass in wt. percentages of B 2 O 3 22À2; PbO 55À0 and Bi 2 O 3 22À8 and with expansion characteristics matching that of the channel glass for coating the channels was melted at 800‹ C. in an alumina crucible and ground to approx. 10 Ám. particle size. Subsequent reduction in hydrogen produces a slightly conductive surface. Powder is settled from an acetone suspension producing a glaze after slow heating to 590‹ C. The film thickness may be 10 to 15 Ám. on a surface with 20 Ám. wide etched pits.
