Abstract

1439430 Refining steel melts METALLURGICAL EXOPRODUCTS CORP 12 Sept 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 39826/74 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for introducing an addition agent into molten steel in a ladle comprises a rod 19 lined with refractory 20 and carrying a base-plate 17 and concentric sleeves 11, 12 and 13 defining compartments 14 and 15. The rod, which may be a stopper rod, terminates in an enlarged section 18 and the sleeves may be made of low C steel or aluminium. The sleeve 13 may be dispensed with. The addition agent B e.g. a zirconium alloy in compartment 15 may be protected by upper and lower layers of agent A e.g. ferrosilicon with a further protective layer in compartment 14.
