Abstract

1439285 Cooling apparatus BUEHLER AG Gebr 22 Aug 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 39887/73 Heading F4U A shaft cooler, e.g. for animal feed cubes comprises an upper inlet pipe 4, Fig. 1, for introduction of the material for passage through the shaft to a lower discharge element 3, the shaft being formed of superposed elements 1, Fig. 1, each having inverted V-shaped air inlet elements 11 and air outlet elements 17, 18, the elements 17, 18 being connected to a common air discharge duet 22, Fig. 6, outside the shaft by upwardly extending transition means 20 to prevent the passage to the discharge duct of material to be cooled. The air inlet elements are connected with ambient atmosphere through apertures in the side walls of the shaft and the air outlet elements 17, 18 are connected to the transmission means through apertures in one side wall. The elements 11, 17, 18 are downwardly open and have air pervious upper walls and further air inlet elements 13, 13<SP>1</SP> open to entry of ambient air through apertures 16 and 16<SP>1</SP> in the walls are positioned in lean-to arrangement adjacent the side wall of each shaft element. Flap valves 30 each having a counterweight control air flow from each shaft element to the air discharge duct in accordance with the accumulation of material to be cooled. Manual, flap operated air lock discharge means (28) are mounted between the air discharge duct and cube discharge element 3 to permit accumulated particles of material to drop into the discharge element. The element 3 has two inclined guide plates (not shown) and is mounted on swing links 40 to be oscillated in a direction substantially transverse to the elements 11, 17, 18 by vibration generators interconnected by a bracing pipe 55. Means are provided to achieve a periodic variation of air flow through one or all of the shaft elements.
