Abstract

1439079 Navigational instrument D J M RUSSELL 22 Nov 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 44221/73 Headings G I F and G I X A navigation instrument comprises fixed rear and fore sights 9, 3 and two movable fore sights 10, 11. Sights 9, 3 may be fixed to a transparent base 1, each movable fore sight being independently movable along the circumference of a circle whose centre coincides with the rear sight 9. The fore sights are conveniently carried on arms 2, 6, 7 which extend radially from the base 1. The fixed arm 2 may be rigid with or an integral part of a base plate. The base 1 may include, as shown, a part circular channel 15 co-operating with a hole in each movable arm, a nut and bolt arrangement allowing fixing of the movable arms. The fore sights may comprise scratched lines on transparent material or upturned end portions of the arms. The fixed rear sight 9 may be removable from a hole in the base plate so that after aligning the fore sights with different land marks, the instrument may be transferred to a chart or map and the position of the rear sight marked by passing a pencil through the central hole in base 1.
