Abstract

1438310 Sealed contact units; electromagnetic relays INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 18 Dec 1973 [3 Jan 1973] 58473/73 Heading H1N A sealed contact unit 1 which can be magnetically actuated has a plane base plate comprising a ring-shaped outer portion 4 joined by a glass ring 6 to a disc-shaped inner portion 5 and a flanged cover 3 which together form a flat housing within which is a permanently magnetized disc 7 electrically and mechanically connected to the outer portion 4 by a member 8. A hole 9 is provided in that portion of the disc 7 disposed over the inner portion 5 of the base plate and a magnetizable armature 10 mounted on the disc 7 by a weak spring 11 is movable through the hole as between the cover and the base plate. A magnetic holding relay Fig. 1 utilizes two contact units 1, 2 with their base plates facing each other and having an electromagnet 12, 13 and a flux guide 14 between them the two contact units being magnetically in series. The dotted line typically shows the magnetic circuit for holding the contact armature 10 against its cover 3 in the non-operated non- energized state and when the coil is excited the flux path is as shown by the solid arrowed line so that the armature is attracted to the inner portion 5 and held until reset by temporary polarity reversal of the winding 12. The armature of the contact unit 2 is similarly actuated.
