Abstract
1438117 Radiation detector UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 8 Oct 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 52676/72 Heading H1K A radiation detector assembly comprises a radiation detector 2, detector cooling means 3, 4, means for detachably securing the detector 2 to a chamber 6, a housing 8 enclosing the detector 2 and having an aperture 9 aligned with the radiation sensitive part 10 of the detector 2, a window 11 outside the housing 8 and also aligned with the radiation sensitive part 10, and a closure member 12 movable across the aperture 9 to close the housing 8 and isolate the detector 2 from the atmosphere. The housing 8 includes a bellows 14 and is mounted on a flange 13 having threaded blocks 27 which traverse threaded rods 28 when they are rotated to move the detector into or out of a tube 23 which holds the window 11. The housing is evacuable using a pump 26. The detector is a Si-Li detector cooled with liquid nitrogen through a metal rod 3.
