Abstract
1280522 X-ray tubes UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 1 Oct 1970 [3 July 1969] 33697/69 Heading H1D One end of an X-ray tube terminates in a vacuum chamber 5, Fig. 1, provided with a rotatable cover 8 carrying two support members 13 (of which only one is shown in Fig. 1) one of which includes a target assembly and the other a fluorescent focusing screen. In Fig. 1 a ring 6 is sealed to a magnetic lens 3 by an 0-ring 7 and is adjustable by screw means 22. The cover 8 has a depending sleeve 9 sealed to the ring 6 by an O- ring 11 and is adjustable rotatably and/or axially. Each support 13 may be sealed at 21, Fig. 3, to the cover 8 and is preferably adjustable axially so that it can be moved in and out of a beam aperture 15 in the lens 3. The target comprises a foil 31 clamped between a disc 33 and a capsule 31 which is provided with a pair of opposed collimating apertures. The capsule may be formed in two halves, and a disc 35 serving as a further collimator may be clamped between the two halves. The focusing aid in the other support 13 may comprise a fluorescent screen on X-ray-proof glass supported on the head portion 16 and a mesh element located within the reduced stem portion 18.
