Abstract
1,205,231. X-ray tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 Nov., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 55816/66. Heading H1D. The window 2 in the wall 1 of an X-ray chamber may be either open to permit the passage of X-rays of long wavelength or closed by a hinged cover 3 having a ramp surface 17 and projecting arms 19. A rod 8 carried in the forked ends of an actuating member 12 is movable along slots 9 formed in end strips (10) between a position as shown, where the rod engages the ramp surface 17 to press the cover against a sealing ring 7 surrounding the aperture 2, to a position where the rod presses against the arms 19 to rotate the cover about pivot rods 4 away from the aperture. The actuating member 12 has an arm 13 pivoted at 14 to a bell crank lever 15. The cover 3 may be provided with an aperture 5 covered with a thin plastics membrane 6 transparent to X-rays of short wavelength or the aperture 5 may be omitted so that in the closed position of the cover X-rays are blocked. When the aperture 2 is open the escape of stray electrons may be reduced by the provision of an electron trap and X-ray collimator system comprising an array of spaced parallel apertured screens and intervening permanent magnets as described in Specification 1,136,255.
