Abstract

1437941 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines G J ALLEN 22 May 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8272/72 Heading F1F In an I.C. engine blades 3 while rotating around a core piece 28 fixed in a housing comprising a block 26 are kept parallel with one another by e.g. gears 18, 20, 22, the chordal pitch of the blade axes being equal to the breadth of each blade. Spring-loaded sealing members 30, 32 may be provided, as shown. A spark-plug (38), Fig. 1C (not shown), may be situated in the housing side-wall 24 adjacent the plunger 30 farthest from inlet and exhaust ports 34, 36. Shafts 12 for the blades may be supported by a flywheel 14 constituting an end-wall of the housing and fixed to an output shaft 16. The gear 18 is stationary, the gears 22 are mounted on the flywheel and the gears 20 are fixed to the shafts 12. Alternatively, the blades may have lenticular profiles with or without rounded ends, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown). The preferred profiles of the wall 24 and piece 26 are defined in the Specification and include arcs of circles. It is indicated that the machine may be adapted to operate as a pump, compressor or motor.
