Abstract

143,793. Southall, J. Nov. 6, 1919. Drying-furnaces.-In a sand dryer comprising a series of heated plates over which the material passes, each plate is heated by a Bunsen or other gas burner. Fig. 1 shows a shaft dryer having sloping plates B disposed on opposite sides of the shaft, each plate being heated by a burner C, the gas supply being controlled by taps D connected with the supply pipes E. The ports B are connected by pipes F which allow the heated gases to circulate upwards. The material is fed to the top of the shaft from a boot A by a chain elevator, and leaves at the bottom by a shoot G.
