Abstract
1436029 Controlling coiler speed TEXCONTROL 29 July 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 33482/74 Headings D1D and D1F A system for controlling the speed of a coiler includes a cylindrical tube having a part 1 about whose axis the tube is pivotable and a second portion 2 at an angle to section 1, the tube being mechanically connected to an angle sensing device which produces an electrical signal which via a computer 27 controls the speed'of rotation of the coiler 29. In use a drafting system having rollers 21, 22 is controlled to give a uniform sliver and hence the output speed of the sliver varies about an average valve. The computer 27 uses the average valve to set the average speed of coiler 29 and the variations of sliver speed detected by tube 1, 2 produce variations about the average speed of coiler 29. The angle sensing device comprises a set of reed switches 11 operated by magnets 10 a further segment magnet 3 rotates with tube 1, 2 and shields the reeds 11 successively from magnets 10. The coiler motor speed is controlled by a clutch and brake system.
