1288475 Carding machines, drawing rollers ZINSER TEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 24 June 1970 [24 June 1969] 30741/70 Headings DID and DIN [Also in Division G3] A carding machine 1 is associated with grooved rollers 12, 13 for producing a sliver 11, a transducer 15 for detecting the thickness of the sliver being connected to a draft controller 19. The roller 12 is driven in common with the carding machine, and is geared to drafting rolls 27 which form the input to a drafting zone. Rolls 29 which form the output of the zone, are driven by a variable speed motor 31. The rolls 27, 29 are coupled to tachometer generators 35, 37 which are connected to a draft control device 39. A store 40 has photo-electric relays 41, 42 for monitoring the level of the sliver and providing signals to the controller 44. A receiver 49 is driven by a motor 51' whose speed is variable. The transducer 15 produces pulses which indicate fluctuations in thickness of the sliver, these signals being fed to motor 31 which varies the degree of draft to reduce variations in thickness. The speed of the receiver 49 is altered in the same sense as the rolls 29, a resistor 60 providing a delay effect. The signals from the relays 41, 42 are imposed on the signals from the device 19 to maintain a steady level of sliver in the store. The device 19 varies the armature currents of the motors 31, 51', while the device 44 controls the field of the motor 51'. The draft control device 39 compares the signals from the tachometer generators 35, 37 and delivers pulses to the motor 31 whereby the required degree of draft is maintained by the control device 19. In a modification, the carding machine is driven by a variable speed motor, a pair of presser rollers being used to supply sliver to a store whose ouput is associated with a draft assembly. The input rolls 27 are now driven by the motor 31 while the rolls 29 and receiver 49 are driven at substantially constant speed, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown).
