Abstract
1435829 Freezing food INTEGRAL PROCESS SYSTEMS Inc 22 Oct 1973 [8 March 1973] 49038/73 Heading F4H Apparatus for refrigerating articles, such as packages of food or meat patties, comprises a chamber 11 through which the articles are conveyed on a conveyer 19 and into which a refrigerant such as liquid CO 2 is introduced through a duct 38. As shown in Fig. 7, a stream 39 of liquid CO 2 is directed towards a deflector 40 at the entrance to laterally spaced passages 83 which are defined by curved vanes 45 and which distribute the CO 2 stream, broken up by the deflector 40, across the width of the chamber 11. A blower 27 draws gas from a recirculation passage 64 and exhausts it horizontally through the duct entrance 38 where it mixes with the incoming liquid CO 2 . The duct entrance 38 is spaced from the chamber entrance 17 at which there is a blower for withdrawing spent gas, the proportions of gas being withdrawn or recirculated being controlled by baffle 57, 80, 81 and a thermally-operated valve 72 and a manuallyoperated valve 73. The chamber 11 comprises a series of thermally insulated sections 12, secured together by latches and each having a hinged lid, and provides a zone 49 having fans 50 to ensure sublimation of any solid snow carried by the articles.
