Abstract

1421837 Self cleaning valves INTEGRAL PROCESS SYSTEMS Inc 17 May 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 23497/73 Heading F4H Refrigeration apparatus for cooling food 15 comprises a thermally insulated chamber 11 having an inlet 13 and exit 14, an endless conveyer belt 16, baffles 26-28 forming flow paths for refrigerant gas, and self-cleaning valves 31 disposed in the individual flow paths for distributing the refrigerant. The refrigerant, preferably CO 2 , is recirculated by a blower 18 driven on a shaft 19, the gas being drawn beneath the trailing end 20 of a baffle 21 and up through a conduit section 22 (see arrows 23) and into the entrance 24 to the blower 18. Each self-cleaning valve 31 comprises a tubular body 35 containing a longitudinally movable part 36 having a tapering end portion 37, and an annular valve seat 40, having a surface which sealingly engages the surface 37 when the valve part 36 is in its closed position. The surface 41 has. a knife-edged scraping portion 42 so that when the part 36 is moved in opening and closing the valve, solid CO 2 deposited within the valve will be removed by the scraping portion 42.
