Abstract
1,241,061. Refrigerating. AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc. 1 Aug., 1968, No. 36807/68. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] Articles on a mesh conveyer are cooled by liquid nitrogen sprays in a zone F and are precooled by the evolved nitrogen vapour in recirculation zones A-E, two of which (B and C) comprise unencased centrifugal fans 125 and 150 arranged in open bottomed compartments defined by walls 51, 55 and 56. The zone B is shown in detail in Fig. 12. The fan comprises a circular plate 131 to which are attached plane blades having flanges 141 and which is rotated by a motor 135. Fixed baffles having plane portions 154 and 155 are arranged perpendicular to the plane of the figure on either side of the fan to inhibit spiralling gas flow. The arrangement ensures that any frozen moisture is deposited at locations, such as 170, where the gas flow changes direction and is prevented from penetrating to the zones D, E and F. Gas passing from the entrance end of the tunnel 10 housing the zones is withdrawn by a fan through a duct 45. Examplary operating conditions are disclosed.
