Abstract

1,116,881. Thawing frozen foods. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. 18 Aug., 1965 [20 Aug., 1964], No. 34132/64. Heading A2D. Frozen blocks of foodstuffs are thawed by conveying them along a predetermined path and passing a current of warm moist air over the blocks in a direction parallel to the path taken by the blocks. Frozen blocks or fish 13 are fed on to a conveyer 12a and are transported within a chamber 11 to the end of this conveyer 12a from which they drop by gravity on to a second conveyer 12b travelling in the opposite direction and are finally discharged after dropping through self-closing slats 36 into a hopper 35 having a hinged door 37. Air is circulated round the apparatus, to pass over the blocks 13 in the same direction in which they are being conveyed, by a fan 14, the air being heated and humified by passing through a hot water spray in a duct 15.
