Abstract

1435123 Stabilizing pipe-lines SEA & LAND PIPELINES Ltd 22 May 1974 [9 March 1973] 11526/73 Addition to 1276468 Heading F2P A pipe-line 1 is layed continuously on the sea-bed 3 from surface vessel (2) and stabilized on the sea-bed by means of coverings 7 which completely cover the pipe-line 1. The coverings 7 each comprise a flexible outer skin containing a mixture of loose aggregate and a settable material and are positioned on the pipe-line prior to the settable material setting to bond the aggregate into a rigid mass lying across the pipe-line. The aggregate may be magnetite or haematite and the coverings may be internally reinforced by layers of polypropylene or steel netting. The coverings 7 are lowered on to the pipe-line 1 by crane (8) from a second surface vessel (9) and positioned with the aid of television camera (11) attached to frame (10). When in position the covering 7 is released from frame (10) and lies over the pipe-line 1 to provide stabilization of and protection to the pipe. line.
