Abstract

1,105,270. Laying pipes. GUNTHER & SHIRLEY CO. 6 Sept., 1965 [21 Dec., 1964], No. 38059/65. Heading F2P. In laying underwater pipelines at least one pipe section 10 is secured on a beam 24 carried by a gantry 20 which is lowered to the bed 18 of a body of water, the pipe section then being aligned by jacks 36, 46 with a pipe section 16 previously laid on ballast material carried in hoppers on the gantry. The guiding of the pipe sections may be accomplished by a diveroperated control unit, or remote control equipment on the floating platform 28, i.e. by devices mounted on the pipes and transmitting signals to surface operators or by closed-circuit television.
