Abstract

1434885 Removing sulphur oxides KAWASAKI JUKOGYO KK 14 March 1974 [14 March 1973] 11537/74 Heading C1A A method of removing sulphur oxides from waste gases comprises absorbing the sulphur oxides in an absorbent slurry of calcium and magnesium hydroxide and/or carbonate in absorber 2 to form sulphites and sulphates, passing the slurry to oxidizer 4 to form a mixture of sulphates at a pH of less than 5 maintained by using H 2 SO 4 , separating the solid calcium sulphate at 5 and passing the resulting MgSO 4 solution to reactor 1 where Ca(OH) 2 and/or CaCO 3 is added to form CaSO 4 and Mg(OH) 2 or MgCO 3 . The slurry may be passed from the absorber 2 to the tank 3 and a portion recirculated via line 13 and a portion of the MgSO 4 solution from 5 may be returned to tank 3 via line 25 to increase the fluidity of the scrubbing solution. The regenerated slurry from reactor 1 may be recirculated to the absorber.
