Abstract
1433985 Flarestacks JOHN ZINK CO 4 June 1974 [15 April 1974] 24680/74 Heading F4T Apparatus 10 for controlling burning of combustible gases in a flare stack comprises a cylindrical tank, and means 52 for maintaining a required level 61 of non-combustible liquid in the tank, a first wall 37 forming an annular space 33 for the downflow of gases, a plurality of small openings 36 in the tank, a baffle 30 in the tank having a plurality of openings 32, a cylindrical shell 46 in the tank above the liquid, thermally-insulated from the tank at 44, 42, means 16 for supplying the gas to the top of space 33, and ignition means 48. Gas flows in accordance with arrows 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, through an aperture 67 in a first baffle 25, and through small apertures 32 in second baffle 30, and thence through the water trap to ignition device 48. The apparatus 10 is supported in a flare stack 70, Fig. 2, by supports 76, and air is supplied through openings 74 and passes to the combustion zone via an annular space 87, and water is supplied to the apparatus from an annular tank 78.
