Abstract

1433948 Axle-bearing guides BRITISH STEEL CORP 19 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 43986/73 Heading B7L A pedestal unit for a railway wagon comprises a frame 1 mounted on a saddle 2 accommodating an axle-journal housing 3, with a load spring suspension system disposed between the frame and the saddle, the saddle being supported on the housing by means of interengaging members 17, 18 of curved cross-section so as to permit rocking motion of the saddle in the axial direction. The members 17, 18 are detachably mounted on the housing and saddle, respectively, and are interchangeable with others of different curvature. The load spring suspension system comprises two spring nests 6, 7 mounted on saddle platforms 4, 5 and engaging friction wedges 8. The saddle supports studs 21 engaging slots 23 in the frame. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the wedges 8 bear against further wedges contained within an angled section of the frame, the wedge sets being interchangeable with other sets having different wedge angles.
