Abstract

1408651 Axle box mountings BRITISH STEEL CORP 11 Oct 1973 [12 Oct 1972] 47142/72 Heading B7L A railway wagon pedestal unit comprises a pedestal frame 7 mounted over a saddle 6 accommodating an axle journal housing 5, the saddle having fore and aft longitudinally extending saddle platforms 15, 16 in register with the frame 7, and a plurality of spring sets 8 between the platforms 15, 16 and the frame 7, wherein at least one spring set 8 has a top cap 29 bearing directly on both one part of an inclined face of the frame via a wear plate 21 and on a wedge 9, the wedge being in contact with a different part of the inclined face of the frame via the wear plate 21 or a separate wear plate, on one side and in frictional open contact with a vertical face of the saddle 6 via a wear plate 17, on another side. Each spring set 8 has coaxial load springs 27, 28 in a cup 26 supported on a tape spring 25.
