Abstract

1433844 Titanium electrodes coated electrolytically with PbO 2 RHEINISCHWESTFALISCHES ELEKTRIZITATSWERK AG 23 Jan 1974 [13 Feb 1973] 03038/74 Heading C7B An electrode consisting of a titanium support and an electrolytically deposited PbO 2 coating is produced by cleaning the titanium support, e.g. using oxalic acid; treating the support by boiling in an oxalic acid solution containing a titanium oxalate complex; and applying a PbO 2 coating anodically from an electrolyte containing lead (II) ions, e.g. from an electrolyte containing the lead (II) salt of the amino, imido, nitridic or fluoric derivatives of sulphuric or phosphoric acid, or containing a Pb (II) salt together with one of the above acids, for example, the bath may contain Pb (II) amino-sulphate or Pb (II) nitrate and aminosulphuric acid. Further PbO 2 may be electrodeposited from an electrolyte containing only lead nitrate, or, if the titanium support is porous, further PbO 2 may be electro-deposited from an alkaline plumbide solution to fill the pores of the structure. The PbO 2 coating may thereafter be boiled in an aqueous alkaline solution. Electro-deposition may be interrupted several times during deposition of the PbO 2 , for short periods by switching off the current or by removing the titanium support from the electrolyte.
