Abstract

1433482 Fluidized beds; boilers PLESSEY CO Ltd 19 April 1973 [26 May 1972] 24906/72 Heading F4U and F4A [Also in Division B1] Fluidized bed heat exchange apparatus in a central heating boiler or in apparatus for cooling chemical reactions comprises a water jacket 62 having inwardly-projecting overlapping portions 66, 68 to provide an apertured baffle arangement which obstructs downward passage of particles from the fluidized bed 76 whilst allowing upward passage of gas intoduced into the lower part of the apparatus through a flame trap 78. Passages 71 may be provided between the portions 66, 68 to prevent air bubbles from being trapped in the area 73. The hot gas is exhausted through a flue 82 either to atmosphere or to be re-circulated around the outside of the water jacket 62. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the water jacket is formed with an inwardly-projecting annular ridge overlapping a saucer-shaped container which contains water and communicates with the jacket.
