Abstract
1,273,200. Waste gas incinerators; burners. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 2 Dec., 1969, No. 58706/69. Headings F4B and F4T. A recuperative thermal treatment unit comprises a housing 1 having a contaminated air inlet opening 2 and a burner unit 3, an inner shell 7 dividing the housing into a combustion chamber 6 and an annular heat exchange section 8, and a plenum section 13 annularly surrounding the burner unit 3 and communicating with the combustion section 6 through openings in a partition surrounding the burner. The burner unit 3 is of cone shape 5 and includes a multiplicity of holes 5<SP>1</SP> through which contaminated air, indirectly preheated with combustion gases in the heat exchange section 8, enter the burner unit 3. The portion of air which by-passes the burner unit is deflected into a spiral flow path by baffles 17 located adjacent the openings in the partition. The contaminated air inlet may be located either at the opposite end of the housing to the burner unit 3 (as shown) or at the same end (see Fig. 2).
