Abstract
1433187 Flame scarfing MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 18 Oct 1973 [21 Oct 1972] 48634/73 Heading B3V A device for applying flame scarfing powder to a workpiece comprises at least two powder inlet spigots 26, 28 for supplying powder from a storage container (38) (Fig. 4, not shown) to a chamber 22 in the device and a plurality of sideby-side outlet passageways 42 connected to the chamber 22 for supplying powder with the aid of a conveying medium such as compressed air to the workpiece, via an outlet 48. The storage container (38) is connected to a pressurized main storage container (64) and by flexible hoses (30, 32) to chamber inlet pipes 26, 28 which are inclined at 30-75 degrees with the chamber axis 24. A third pipe 26a may be provided in which case the pipe 28 may be vertically arranged. Outlet channels 44 which lead to outlet bores or an outlet slot 48 are connected to a compressed air supply conduit 54 by channels 50 and a chamber 52. Nozzles 56 are positioned in the channels 44 to produce a suction to draw iron powder from the chamber 22 into the channels 44 where it is carried by the compressed air to the outlet slot 48. When the compressed air supply is turned off, the powder accumulates (Fig. 3, not shown) in the passageways 42, which may be raised. The device is mounted on a scarfing torch 14 which is rotatable to enable the side faces of a workpiece to be scarfed. The device is cooled by a system 60 and is provided with a conduit 58 for supplying purifying air to the slot 48.
