Abstract
871,736. Fire extinguishing apparatus. JONES & CO. (ENGINEERING) Ltd., SAMUEL. July 25, 1957 [July 25, 1956], No. 23047/56. Class 47. In fire extinguishing apparatus, fire extinguishing powder is expelled from a container 7, Fig. 1, by gas pressure and is discharged through a nozzle 10 which incorporates intermediately of its ends an inlet 22, Fig. 2, for pressurized gas from a separate gas supply conduit and means constituted by an annular manifold surrounding a cone shaped powder supply nozzle to direct the gas introduced therein towards the discharge nozzle outlet to apply a boosting force to powder brought to the nozzle from the container. The nozzle 10 comprises an inlet portion 14 internally tapered towards its outlet end where it is internally threaded to receive an adaptor 16 having a parallel bore 17 leading to an outlet end 18 which is forwardly tapered on its outer surface, the adaptor 16 being surrounded by an inner annular member 19 having eight radial holes 21 and an outer annular member 20 which defines a manifold which places the holes 21 in communication with the gas inlet 22. A forwardly tapered outlet portion 15 is threaded on to the inner annulus 19. The nozzle 10 is mounted to swivel in vertical and horizontal planes at the head of a bracket 11 fitted to a casing 1 which houses the powder container 7 and CO 2 cylinder 2, together with shut-off and pressure reducing valves 3, 6 respectively. Flexible hoses 9, 24 connect the nozzle to the container 7 and CO 2 source respectively.
