[Also in Division B7] A sweeping and cleaning device comprises a lance having a body portion 1 containing a pair of bores 3, 2 adapted to be connected to air and water or like fluid pressure sources, the body portion terminating in a nozzle 4 having a single discharge outlet 11 communicating with the pair of bores such that a mixing of the water or like fluid with the air occurs at the point of emergence of the air from the discharge outlet to produce from the nozzle a jet of air having uniformly dispersed therein water or like fluid in finely divided form. The pipe 3 carrying compressed air is continued by a bore 13 of reduced diameter, in the body 10 of the nozzle, which opens into a larger bore 12. The pipe 2 carrying water, under suitable pressure, is connected through a passage 14 with an annular recess 15 surrounding the bore 12. Inclined passages 16 of small diameter extend from the recess 15 and enter the bore 12 tangentially, at the point where it diverges into the conical outlet 11. Instead of passages 16, desirably six or more in number, the bore 12 may be surrounded by an annular aperture. Instead of being inclined to the axis of the nozzle as shown the passages 16 may be radial, at right angles to the axis; or they may join the bore in a chordwise direction. The valve 6 controlling the water supply is preferably arranged to open slightly earlier than the valve 8 controlling the air supply. The pipes 2, 3 may be coaxial, or a double-bore pipe used. The nozzle may include a further jet delivering an air-water mix. A stationary or rotary brush may be added to the nozzle.
