Class 86 [Also in Group XXVIII] A venturi mixing device for gases comprises a body having a straight through passageway, said passageway having a nozzle portion for entraining gas, with a convergent approach thereto, a cylindrical portion of twice the sectional area of the mouth of said nozzle portion into one end of which said nozzle discharges a diverging jet of entraining gas, the cylindrical portion extending d o w nstream and terminating at or closely adjacent to the location where the diameter of said diverging jet is equal to the diameter of the cylindrical portion and a diverging portion extending downstream of the cylindrical portion and conforming to the divergence of the jet, apertures for entry of the entrained gas being provided in the cylindrical portion adjacent the nozzle. As shown the entraining fluid is forced into one end of a sleeve 2 through a convergent nozzle 3 housed within a recess in that end of the sleeve and the entrained fluid enters the sleeve 2 through lateral openings 2c in the sleeve wall. The two fluids are mixed in the bore of the sleeve 2 which comprises an upstream cylindrical portion 2b of twice the cross sectional area of the nozzle mouth 3a and a downstream conical portion 2a which if extended in an upstream direction would meet the periphery of the nozzle mouth 3a. The sleeve 2 is secured by a threaded portion 4 within a housing 1 which forms, with the sleeve 2, an annular chamber 1b which communicates with an inlet 1c for the entrained fluid, and the housing 1 has a divergent passageway 1a, generally continuous with the conical bore 2a, which forms an outlet for the mixture.
