Abstract
1408715 Mixing fluids in flow HANS GROHE KG 7 Feb 1973 5994/73 Heading B1C [Also in Division F1] In apparatus, for inducing and mixing an additive into a liquid stream, the latter flows through a plurality of bores 40, Fig. 7, in a disc 39, and a convergent acceleration chamber 29 to a nozzle 28 which forms a jet traversing the chamber 33 (which is open to atmosphere through bores 34 and acts as a back-flow interceptor) and entering the injector tube 14, 15; this has a step at 16 where suction passages 18 communicate with the additive container 6. In modifications there may be a streamline body 31 in the chamber 29 to promote laminar flow; the body 31 may have a through bore (42, Figs. 2 and 3, not shown); there may be an extended jet nozzle (28', 28" Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) and a shortened acceleration chamber (29', 29") associated with a chamber (45, 45') of larger diameter between the acceleration chamber and the apertured disc, the apertures (47') being optionally convergent. The acceleration chamber and injector tube may be formed in replaceable inserts 26, 13 as shown of synthetic material and the suction passage 19 includes annular grooves 18, 20. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the injector tube may have convergent inlet portions 68, 69 and a divergent outlet portion 15' and the jet nozzle 54' may be formed in a conical projection 57 extending to the inlet of the injector tube. Preferably the diameter of the bores in the disc 39 is smaller than their length; the free jet path is 20-25 mm long; the inlet of chamber 33 is at least twice the nozzle 28 diameter and the chamber is at least 15 mm long; and the inlet portion 68 is at least 20 mm long. The angles of divergence of chamber 29 and body 31 are such that the cross-section of the flow passage decreases towards the nozzle. The apparatus may supply a shower head (1, 2) the pipe (4) to which is at least twice the diameter of bore 15.
